Neil Gaiman, the celebrated author of ‘Sandman’ and ‘Coraline’, has been dropped by Dark Horse Comics following serious sexual assault allegations outlined in a cover story for New York Magazine on January 13.
The article detailed accusations from several women, with four of the eight women involved also sharing their stories in a podcast released by Tortoise Media in July 2023.
In response to the allegations, Dark Horse Comics announced on Friday that it would no longer be publishing Gaiman’s works, including the comic series and collected volume of ‘Anansi Boys’. The publisher’s statement emphasized their commitment to taking such allegations seriously.

Gaiman, who strongly denied the allegations, took to his personal blog to assert, “I have never engaged in non-consensual sexual activity with anyone. Ever.” His representatives did not immediately comment on Dark Horse’s decision.
The allegations against Gaiman were amplified in the NY Mag article, which described several women, including a former babysitter for Gaiman’s child, a caretaker for his property, and a fan who met him at 18, all of whom described unwanted sexual advances. The women accused Gaiman of engaging in rough sex and BDSM activities without prior consent.
In his own statement, Gaiman acknowledged his past emotional unavailability but denied the sexual assault accusations, stating, “I can’t accept being described as someone I am not.”
While Gaiman’s ‘Anansi Boys’ comic series was canceled, Amazon’s upcoming TV adaptation of the novel has not yet been impacted by the allegations. However, Gaiman’s other projects, including ‘Good Omens’ Season 3 and Disney’s adaptation of ‘The Graveyard Book’, have been affected by the controversy.
