Scarlett Johansson gave a rare insight into Bill Murray’s personal challenges and struggles on the set of Lost in Translation.

While the Avengers actress enjoyed the sweet success that followed her role in Sofia Coppola’s Oscar-winning 2003 hit, Bill Murray’s experience on set was far more complicated.

In an interview with the Vanity Fair, the Black Widow actress revealed that she was a huge fan of Murray’s work in projects like Groundhog Day and What About Bob before joining him on the film, but that he “was in a hard place” while making it.

“Everybody was on tenterhooks around him, including our director and the full crew, because he was dealing with his stuff,” she explained.

Johansson said she hadn’t encountered a co-star in such a “headspace” before.

However, decades later when she ran into Murray during the Saturday Night Live 50th anniversary special she recalled the moment to the outlet saying, “He’s such a different person now. I think life has humbled him.”

When asked if Johansson means that Murray was “humbled” by allegations of misconduct levied against him, the 40-year-old star added, “Certainly, yes that was really bad. But I also know COVID was a hard thing for him. Life all these things have led up to him being held accountable for that kind of behaviour.”

Johansson will be starring in upcoming film Jurassic World Rebirth alongside Jonathan Bailey, set to premiere on July 2.

Meanwhile, Murray is set to star alongside Naomi Watts in The Friend, slated for release on March 28.
