Zootopia 2 just made a near-record!
The movie grossed an astonishing $38.5 million on Black Friday which was just one of the very impressive numbers it garnered in its first few days in theaters.
Zootopia 2, the sequel to its 2016 animated film, topped the box office with a $156 million opening weekend in the North America.
And alongside its incredible launch overseas, the optimistic rabbit and the wily fox smashed records with its global start of $556 million.
The impressive total made it the fourth-biggest worldwide debut in history following big budget superhero flicks Avengers: Endgame, Avengers: Infinity War, and Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Zootopia 2‘s opening weekend also broke records with its smashing debut in China, where it achieved the top animated opening of all time with $272 million.
Zootopia 2 also nabbed the second biggest launch in movie history.
The Saturday after Black Friday was also a record-smashing success as Zootopia 2 became the biggest launch for a Hollywood title since May 2021, grossing $104 million just on the single day alone.
The buddy cops comedy film is a sequel to the original animated movie, which was released in March 2016.
That year, Zootopia won the best animated feature at the Oscars and also won the Golden Globe Award in the same category.
