The final supermoon of 2025 will brighten Pakistan’s night sky on December 4 and 5, drawing skywatchers and photographers to vantage points across the country.
According to the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco), the supermoon will appear up to 7.9% larger and nearly 15% brighter than a typical full moon as it comes within 357,218 kilometers of Earth. The phenomenon occurs when the Moon reaches its closest point to the planet.
This will be the third and last supermoon of 2025, reaching 99.2% brightness on the evening of December 4 and peaking at 99.8% brightness at 4:15 am on December 5. Suparco noted that the spectacle will be easily visible on both nights across Pakistan.
The event will also be observable globally, offering a striking celestial display for astronomy enthusiasts. The previous supermoon appeared on November 5, and the next one is expected in early January 2026, though it falls outside the 2025 cycle.
Experts added that when a supermoon rises near the horizon, it often appears even larger due to a natural optical illusion—an effect that has captivated stargazers for centuries.
